Skylight London: Tobacco Dock’s Fun Rooftop Bar for Any Occasion

Entering through an East London car park and up a concrete stairwell, you may well wonder where the signs to Skylight are leading you. Fear not, after the slightly backstreet entrance out you pop to be greeted with bunting, fairy lights, multiple bars and that gorgeous view of the London skyline. Boasting several bars, food stalls, games and an ice rink in the winter, Skylight London is the ultimate adults’ playground.

Skylight is one of Tobacco Dock’s lesser-known gems; we visited back in July and got loads of messages asking where we were after posting the stunning views on Instagram. If you’re after content, Skylight is so pretty and Instagram-able.

Due to the delights of half the year being freezing cold, rooftop bars are often confined to the same category as Pimms, BBQs and long evenings in pub gardens. Not Skylight, who have nailed the rooftop fun all year round. Summer sees day beds, pentanque, croquet and ping pong, whilst winter brings the apres ski vibes with igloos, huts, fluffy throws, an ice hockey shoot out and ice skating. Skylight in summer provides the perfect ‘day sesh’ vibes, whereas in winter it’s the perfect cosy date night destination.

We all know that the weather in the U.K. can be about as reliable as Hermes parcel deliveries, however the thoughtful lads over at Skylight London have you covered, quite literally. As well as the completely covered Level 9 which you can take shelter in if the heavens open, the upstairs pergola area provides shelter whilst still being able to take in those rooftop views.

Skylight London: COVID Information

Bookings are currently required at Skylight London, so that they can manage their capacity and ensure that tables remain socially distanced. Like most places, payment is cashless, and it’s table service only. More time for boozing if you don’t have to queue at the bar! You can book a table for six people with six welcome drinks for £60, or for £80 you get eight spaces and eight welcome drinks (house wine or a can of Camden Hells).

Skylight London: The Menu

You’re lying if you say that after a few beers, you’re not stalking out the nearest food offerings like a dog hanging around the kitchen door at dinnertime. Food at Skylight currently comes in the form of Hikari (poke) or State Side (philly cheesesteaks, mac n cheese etc), however switches to Greek street food ‘Yiro’ or Flip Side burgers for the winter season. All outlets are set up as ‘food stalls’ (currently bought to your table), so are completely informal and ideal if your group want to eat different things at different times. The current meal deal at State Side offers the best value: a philly cheese sub, spicy chicken wings or mac n cheese, with either fries or crunchy slaw for £12.50. Winning.

An extensive bar menu also ensures that nobody leaves Skylight thirsty. Or sober, if that’s your vibe.. From beers (Camden Hells on tap for the win) to wines or a bottle of Moet, Veuve or Dom if you’re feeling boujee, there’s options for all. Not to mention the list of cocktails and a whole page of spirits. I can vouch that the Beefeater Blood Orange gin is tasty as.

We’ve visited Skylight London multiple times, during both summer and winter, and had a blast on every visit. With such a wide range of bevs on offer, food to soak it up, and a buzzing atmosphere no matter the time of day, there’s not an occasion that wouldn’t be well celebrated at Skylight.
